Regulations

• These awards are open to all spine surgeons and researchers from the region.
• The work may take the form of clinical trials, surveys, retrospective studies, laboratory experiments or any other form of unpublished original work.
• The bulk of the work submitted must be performed by the author himself/herself even though he/she may have done the work in conjunction with other doctors or agencies either locally or internationally.
• The abstracts shortlisted for MSS Presidential Best Research Award (Oral Presentation) will be evaluated on the following criteria: -
• Clarity of content
• Quality of content (background, methodology, findings, etc)
• Originality and complexity
• Significance of project (to field of study, clinical, etc)
• Appropriate use of slides/pictures/media
• Smooth transitions between topics
• Informative and clear summary/conclusions
• Response to questions
• Overall impression of research idea
• Overall impression of presentation
• The abstracts for the MSS Presidential Best Poster Award will be evaluated on the following criteria: -
• Clarity of content
• Quality of content (background, methodology, findings, etc)
• Originality and complexity
• Significance of project (to field of study, clinical, etc)
• Appropriate use of slides/pictures/media
• Smooth transitions between topics
• Informative and clear summary/conclusions
• Overall impression of research idea
• Overall impression of presentation
• Upon the abstract submission deadline, all abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and finalists will be shortlisted for MSS Presidential Best Research Award (oral presentation) & MSS Presidential Best Poster Award. All authors will be notified of the status of their submissions.
• Abstracts of the finalists shortlisted for MSS Presidential Best Research Award (oral presentation) will be published in the Supplement Issue of Malaysian Orthopaedic Journal (MOJ). *Depends on total of abstracts submitted.
• The author himself/herself of the top finalists for MSS Presidential Best Research Award (oral presentation) MUST present the paper during the 13th International MSS Scientific Congress.
• Both award winners will be announced during the Closing Ceremony on the 16 August 2026 and he/she must be present to accept his/her award.
